My Other Form of Art & The Fake Altercation
My Other Form of Art & The Fake Altercation
"The camera makes you forget you're there. It's not like you are hiding but you forget, you are just looking so much."
(Annie Leibovitz)
Today, I just suddenly got the idea to tell you about my other form of art: photography. I'm not really focused on this, but I just love taking pictures ever since I can remember. Mostly aren't pictures of people like portrait or beauty, I just took pictures of the sky, shadows, colorful things that I find interesting, etc. Photographs are freeze-able moments. You'll lose moments quickly, one second and everything is already different. With photos, you can see and perhaps, feel a moment again, even if it's not going to be the same. I take pictures and record videos with my DSLR camera (Nikon D5100), my phone (past: Xiaomi Mi4i, current: Xiaomi Redmi Note 3) or my latest gear which is a disposable camera. With disposable camera, you can really feel my words that 'you'll lose moments quickly'. It's one click away and you can't catch it anymore. Waiting for the film roll to be developed is also kinda fun.
I almost always take pictures with my phone. Makes sense because I carry that thing anywhere, anytime. For InstaStory purposes, I change the aspect ratio to 16:9 (Full screen) on portrait position. If it's for a post in the Feed, I'll change it to 4:3 (Standard) on landscape or portrait position. I edit most of my photos in VSCO because it's quick and easy. Put on my default editing settings, throw in a filter (lower the intensity, of course), a little grain if needed and.. Voilà: my photo is Instagram ready. Usually I deleted the original/unedited version of the picture once it's in VSCO so no phone storage is going to be wasted. And I also usually forget to do that.
Now I'm going to show you one of my works. Not very proud of this one, but I really like the combination of vibrant colors with a dark background. It adds the vignette effect that makes the photograph looks more dramatic. This one is called 'Wayang Kelahi/The Fake Altercation'. This photograph was taken with my Nikon D5100, at a traditional puppets performance that was held in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The traditional puppet/‘wayang’ have their own meaning for me. These two puppets that are fighting is a representation of 'actors' involved in Indonesia’s heated political situation. Nobody can really trust the government because it’s full of corruptor, lies and people are acting up fights and made up conflicts just for the attention, or simply getting into the headline of a newspaper. Puppet is a strong symbol of unreliable people in the government since they are acting up fights, made conflicts for attention and some of them being 'used' by those people who sits on the higher level.
Well, I think that's it for today's post. I'm sorry if it's a bit all over the place. Been trying to write regularly and post at least weekly. Writing is good for getting things off of my mind and make peace with my brain. It's stress relieving. You guys should try too! Alright then, have a nice day everyone. Happy Thursday! We're this close to the the weekend. Hang on, folks. Thanks for reading, appreciate it. See you next post.
